Srinagar:  The Government Wednesday said that the Flood Control Department does not show any reluctance in dealing with the sand mafia who indulge in the illegal extraction of sand, bajri and stone in Chandri Ara and Watalara in Tral town of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

To a question raised by MLA Tral, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah, the Minister for PHE and I&FC said that the extraction of bed material takes place without the proper permission from the department. “The department has initiated many steps which include penalizing the illegal extractors by way of filing challans uner the Water Resources Act 2010 and filing of FIR’s,” the Minister said.

The Minister according to CNS added that Geology and Mining department has been requested to seize the tippers and tractors and also impose heavy penalties on the illegal extractors. (CNS)
