pakistan-01-1459505847Islamabad: Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain has urged the world powers to take notice of grave human rights violations in Kashmir and Palestine.

He was addressing a function in connection with international human rights day in Islamabad today.

Mamnoon Hussain said the world community should carefully craft its policies that do not impinge the rights of others.

He regretted that in different parts of the world including Kashmir and Palestine, the people have been deprived of their right to self determination. He said the occupying forces are subjecting the defenseless and armless people in these territories to persecution. He said responsibility rests with the world community especially the main powers to take notice of this grave situation for peace and stability.

Turning to the human rights situation in the country, Mamnoon Hussain said several steps have been taken to protect the rights of women and minorities. In this regard, legislation such as the one on honor killing has also been done.

Mamnoon Hussain pointed out the ratio of charity in Pakistan is very high when compared with any other country of the world. He said this money is used for the assistance of deprived segments of the society. He, however, said that such steps are also required that bring these deprived segments to the national mainstream so that they could also contribute to the national development.

Earlier, the President also gave away awards to the activists who rendered matchless work in the domain of human rights protection. These included people belonging to different walks of life including poets, singers and parliamentarians. (Agencies)
