attachment-3Jammu: The members of the Indigenous Medicines organization (IMO) expressed anguish over the hasty decision of state government of attaching Director General ISM Dr. Abdul Kabir and subsequent defamation of the department for vested interests.

The move of the government according to IMO headed by DR. Mahesh Sharma was termed distressing in an executive meeting and said that the department had flourished and grew many folds under the supervision of Dr Kabir.

“Under the pressure of some vested interest people, Government has taken this wrong and extreme step though Dr. Abdul Kabir Dar under whose tenure the department has flourished, and tremendous growth has been seen. The infrastructure development, creation of manpower, mainstreaming of AYUSH doctors and their posting in all PHCs/DHs, skill development programmes for doctors, the norms for private nursing homes/ clinics,” reads the statement.

They said the procurement of medicines and other executed projects under probe was done in a transparent manner and standard procedures were adopted.

“The entire procurement has been done through global e-tendering, each batch of medicine supply to the ISM dispensaries/hospitals is first analysed from NABL Govt approved laboratories, then supplied to field institutions,” they said in a statement.

They said that not a single complaint have been received from any patient or field staff about any substandard drugs lying in their stores, department has worked tirelessly always despite meagre resources be it during natural calamities like flood, catastrophe in the valley wherein mobile camps were organised which boosted the image of department in public and so many such achievements and developments were seen during his tenure.

The association demanded an inquiry to see how fungal has developed in some medicinal stores, likely due to increasing temperature.

The association said: “It is also the matter of enquiry to see how this allegedly fungal has developed in certain centres which may be due to increased temperature, humid atmosphere or the deliberately and mischief and needs to be concluded on merits in a time bound manner.”

“We welcome the government decision that the enquiry into so called issue of ‘’Spurious drugs’ would be concluded in a week’s time. Whereas now it is about one month is elapsing and no report have been reportedly submitted action has been taken in a time bound manner, we request the government to look into the issue without any further delay as unnecessary delay will lead to the anarchy in ISM department and create a hoax about the faith of Ayurvedic System of medicine drugs in the public.,” they demanded.

Pertinently, the officials, who doesn’t want to be identified said that a well organized group of people are hell bent to spoil the image of the institution for personal interests.
