Clashes In Old Sopore, One Cop Injured

Clashes erupted in the Jamia Masjid locality of Sopore between protesters and the paramilitary forces following the Friday prayers in North Kashmir.

Soon after the Friday prayers, protestors mainly youth who has assembled at Jamia Masjid road started throwing stones on security forces who in return used heavy tear gas shelling to disperse them.

Police and Paramilitary forces in the area retaliated by lobbing tear smoke shells and chilli grenades to disperse the stone throwing youths.

Meanwhile, one policeman was injured in clashes with protesters in the old town.

The joint resistance leadership have called for protests after congregational prayers. The protests have been called against the killings of three civilians in clashes with the security forces in Choodra area of Budgam district on Tuesday.

Authorities have placed senior separatist leaders, Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq under house arrest in Srinagar while Muhammad Yasin Malik has been lodged in the central jail.
