Srinagar: The recent incident of army making a Kashmir youth “human shield” while tying to the front of jeep may have received lauds in Indian establishment for an officer, however, the world media has widely criticized the move.

The influential daily of America, New York Times Newspaper in its editorial termed the incident “cruelty and cowardice” by the government forces and warned that it will infuse the militancy in troubled valley.

 The criticism from the international media comes at a time when army received wide appreciation for the move of tying youth to a jeep and was termed the smart work of officer, purportedly to avoid stone pelting mobs.  

The Jammu and Kashmir incharge and top brass of BJP Ram Madhav said recently that it was a smart work to avoid causalities and “everything is fair in love and war”, the remarks sharply reacted by its political ally in Kashmir-PDP.

“Such posturing will only doom Kashmir to a deadly spiral, where more brutal military tactics will feed more despair and more militancy,” the editorial warns.

Mocking at New Delhi it concludes, “Modi’s government would do well to follow the recommendations of the report, before Indian democracy loses its credibility and Kashmiris are robbed of a chance to dream, along with the rest of India, of a peaceful, prosperous future.”

The army has already launched a Commission of Inquiry into the case and the report is said to be filed in one month.
