In Islam the charity towards needy has a great reward, Sumaira Hamid sums up in the light of Quran the reward it offers to human beings.
Serve Allah, and join not any partners with Him; and do good to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbours who are near, neighbours who are strangers, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (ye meet), and what your right hands possess: For Allah loveth not the arrogant, the vainglorious;- (Surah An-Nisa’, 36)
Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah and do not follow up their spending by stressing their benevolence and causing hurt, will find their reward secure with their Lord. Really they have no reason for fear and grief.
To talk a kind word is better than charity followed by hurt. Allah is all forbearing.
The believers do not nullify the acts of charity by stressing their benevolence and causing hurt as does he who spends his wealth only to be seen by men and does not believe in Allah and the last day.
If we do thin coating of earth on a stone, it gets washed away with the rain, leaving the stone bare. Such people derive no gain from their acts of charity.
Those needy ones who are wrapped up fully in the cause of Allah and those who are hindered from moving about the earth in search of their livelihood deserve help.
Although, they do not go for begging to people but you will know them by their countenance. Whatever you are going to spend on them to help them, Allah will know of it.
If you turn away, Allah will replace you by another and they will not be greedy like you.
You shall not attain righteousness until you spend out of what you love in the way of Allah. Allah knows whatever you spend.
Have you seen him who belies the rewards and punishments of the hereafter? It is who drives away the orphan and does not insist upon giving away food to the poor.
You must give to the nearest of kin, his dues and to the needy too and to the wayfarers. Never waste your wealth. When one does that, he becomes an ally of Satan and becomes ungrateful to his Lord.
Allah says to prophet, “tell those of my servants who believe that they should establish prayer and spend out of what we have provided them with both secretly and openly before there arrives the day when there will be no bargaining nor any mutual befriending.”
Allah does not love the arrogant and the boastful that are niggardly and conceal the bounty which Allah has bestowed upon them.
The people who were given the book before this did not divide into sects until after the clear statement had come to them and only command given to them was to worship Allah making their religion sincerely to pay zakat. Allah says to his believers to establish prayers and dispense the purifying Alms (Zakat)
The believers, both men and women, are allies of one another. They need to establish prayer, pay zakat and obey Allah and his message. Surely Allah will be merciful to them.
Upper hand is better than the lower hand. He who gives in charity is better than him who takes it.
One should start first to help its dependents. Zakat is meant only for the poor and needy and to help those burdened with debt and for expenditure in the way of Allah and for the wayfarer. This is an obligation from Allah.
If we look at things with true human interest, we will never turn down our hands without spending some of our wealth in the way of Allah.
It is not a matter of paying to someone needy but matter is to make him to earn of his own. So we must drain out his mind that he is dependent on others. One must utilise his energy to work and earn.
To feed a person is easy for both giver as well as taker. The best way is to teach and guide him how to work and earn. If we feed a person who is not really needy but is lazy to work, then we must make him work and earn.
How many children we see or elderly men and women we come across on road sides every day who are begging? This is a part of their profession but no one tells them or guides them how to earn with dignity by working hard.
