The fire resulted in two gas cylinders exploding inside the house which fortunately was at close proximity of one of the Army units in Leh. “A major tragedy was averted as there were three more gas cylinders inside the house which could have resulted into a major hazard,” said the senior army official.

“Unmindful of their personal safety the soldiers rushed inside the house to remove these cylinders and other inflammable material before starting to douse the fire,” he added.

He said even though the Leh Fire Brigade was quick to react and rushed to the spot immediately, the restricted lanes prevented the fire tender to reach the house.

He said the army unit rushed its water bowser trucks to the spot and helped to extinguish the fire and with fire fighting equipments.

“No casualties were reported in the incident and the housing colony inhabitants expressed their deep gratitude to the jawans of Army.”
