Victims demand compensation, police registered cases

Baramulla: Five shops gutted and goods worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes after fire broke out mysteriously in General Bus Stand and Sheeri Main Market in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district

Victim shopkeepers told The Legitimate that fire broke out from a wholesale grocery shop in main market Sheeri which engulfed adjacent tent shop and both shops gutted completely.

“The local neighbours informed us about the fire which broke out around 4:30.A M after a driver whose vehicle broke down in the market on Srinagar-Muzzafarabad highway raised alarm. We informed fire station and fire tenders immediately reached on the spot to douse of the flames,” the shopkeepers said.

However, before the fire was brought under control, both the shops were completely damaged. The cause of the fire was not known yet,” they added. Sources said apparently short circuit caused the fire. 

In another similar fire incident, fire broke out from inside an electronic shop in the General Bus stand market in the first floor in which a shop gutted completely while two others suffered partial damage. “The local neighbours informed us about the fire which broke out early in the morning around 7AM from an electronic shop. We informed fire station and fire tenders immediately reached on the spot to douse the flames,” shopkeepers said.

However, before the fire was brought under control, the shop was completely damaged and rooftops of two other shops also gutted. The cause of the fire was not known yet. Police registered a case and started investigation into the fire incident.
