Mir Iqbal Ahmad along with block president Narwav Ab Hamid Dar and other workers toured different villages of Narwav Baramulla which includes Reshimuqam, Dangerpora , Laridora, Nowgam and discussed with the people about the outbreak of disease in the area due to contaminated drinking water.
While talking to media persons Mir iqbal said that around 250 families are affected by this water born disease and all this has happen due the negligence of PHE department. As per locals the under construction filtration plant was handed over to the concerned department by the contractor few years back to fetch the water to the local inhabitants.
Few days back locals extracted the death body of few wild animals from the said filtration plant which caused this disease among the common people. Iqbal who visited the plant said that the locals claimed this has happened many times before also but department has not learnt any lesson and has ignored the repeated requests of locals.
Mir blamed the department for their negligence and has said that ever since this disease has spread no official from PHE department has bothered to visit the site and has never cleaned the same filtration plant. Beside Mir hailed the role of concerned BMO who timely intervened and is continuously camping in the area and attending the patients.
Mir Iqbal appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla to constitute an enquiry committee in this regard and ensure the accountability of the concerned department.
