Shutdown Continues In Trehgam Against Youth Killing

Kupwara: All shops and other business establishments remained closed while as public and private transport also remained off the roads. However there were no restrictions or forces deployment in Trehgam area.

Reports from the district headquarter Kupwara said people resumed their routine life today.

However two women from Trehgam were hospitalised after they were injured allegedly by teargas shelling early morning.

Locals said that several women were working and collecting water when a police party fired shells towards the protesters.

While taking to SP Kupwara Ambarkar said that scores of persons took to streets and blocked the main road and didn’t allow traffic to ply. After that police swung into action to clear the road from blockade by protesters,” he added.

On Wednesday Khalid Gaffer Malik son of Abdul Gafar Malik, a resident of Trehgam was killed after army soldiers resorted to firing to disperse stone pelting youth.

Authorities have announced a probe into the killing of Khalid and the FIR has been lodged by police. Meanwhile, low speed internet services (2G) were restored in Kupwara district on Saturday.
