If any nation wants to play lead role in social, economic and political development then it has to focus on higher education. Focusing on higher education does not mean there is no need of primary education.

Both higher and primary education has its own importance on own grounds but in this article I am focusing on higher education.

Our Higher educational setup is almost in doldrums. It is facing some of the major problems that needs to be addressed to stand at par in the world of excellence. The first issue our higher education is facing incompetent teachers in classrooms.

A large section of teachers in India are not well trained and qualified for jobs that they have assigned to do. Most of these teachers have long experience in higher education, but their quality of teaching is abysmal.

The primary job of teacher is to teach well but within our system their performance is being evaluated on the basis of certain parameters. The number of books he have authored.

The number of research papers he published in international and national journals. Also number of PHD thesis done by students under his supervision. On these parameters teachers are being appointed and promoted but quality teaching are not given weightage.

Even these teachers are not doing quality research as they are not so clear with their research topics, so it is the only reason our research are very poor in international standards. If there is no creativeness and innovations in research than what would be fun to do research.

Most of the teachers are adding their name in research which is actually prepared by students to submit their thesis. From last couple of years I shared thoughts and ideas with many scholars about their research programs, most of the students narrated same story.

They said, most of the research papers in India are duplicate on grounds, there is lack of case study in 99 percent research cases mostly students download or try to bring some old researches stuff related to their topics and review same and then they submit it as their own research papers.

No doubt it is also important in one of the research chapter of their research” Review of Literature” but they did not collect empirical data to justify their problem.

Finance is another major issue in higher education of India; if we will look on the budget of India it clearly speaks India is spending very less on higher education.

If there is need to improve quality in higher education then more funding is to be approved in the higher education system to boast the quality research programmes.

Young graduates need to learn skilled knowledge that can make them competitive for jobs in the global market. Our educational setup is not focusing on project based learning and theoretical knowledge would not shape individuals mental outlook.

We need to learn things about discovery and innovation that will help us to build-up well mental outlook. Due to the lack of financial aids there is no such kind of strategy in our educational system and the exchange programmes are made across the globe.

Privatization of higher education is not going to solve any problem but it is also emerging one among problems. Private higher educational institutions are charging hefty amount from students and not providing quality education.

These institutions are needed to encourage the culture of creativity, developed imaginations and learning new skills among young students.

Quota system has totally ruined higher educational setup and is becoming more controversial with each passing day. This system is not good for quality education; it mars talent and merit that is more important than anything else.

We know in quota system seats are being reserved for the students belong to marginalized sections of society.

If we will look on recent draft passed by UGC (University Grants Commission) in which it were mentioned 50 percent of the total seats reserved for quota and 50 for unreserved category. Soon after implementation of this draft, Delhi University challenges UGC decision; they made it public that most of the category students failed to perform well in recent entrance exam conducted by Varsity.

If there is need to bring people out of poverty then we need to act for social mobility and this can’t be achieved until or unless we focus on higher education system.

Also it is an essential need to reform teaching system, teachers should know the ways and methods to imbibe the creativity and innovations into the minds of students.
