Situation In North Better Than South Kashmir: Army Commander

Baramulla, July 14 : Situation in North Kashmir is better than South Kashmir, GOC of army’s 15 corps, Lt Gen AK Bhat said on Saturday.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at Baramulla, he said that he also appealed people to keep themselves away from spots where Army conducts its operations.
“It’s my appeal to public and youth to not pelt stones on Army and to keep themselves away from spots where Army conducts its operations. We’re not upset with public and youth of Kashmir because they are one of us,” he said.

Lt Gen AK Bhat said Indian Army will not allow anyone to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir, especially northern region of Kashmir where “things are quite calm and people are living peacefully.”

The army officer was in Baramulla in connection with concluding certification ceremony for students who were part of 20 days long film making courses at Themiya Hall.
He said that people in North Kashmir’ are peace lovers and always cooperated with government forces for making things better in the region Situation.

Responding to a question, Lt Gen AK Bhat said that soldiers always tried to cooperate civilian especially during encounters “but people when cross boundaries then our soldiers are opening fire and that too after warning.”

He said that those who supporting militant activities will be dealt “heavy hand”.

GOC 19 infantry division Lt Gen GS Rawat, SSP Baramulla Imtiyaz Hussain, officials from police and civil administration were present at the function.

The GOC 15 corps Lt Gen AK Bhat also inaugurated Gym centre at Stadium Baramulla. (GNS)
