Police Launch Investigation In Kulgam Civilian Killings, Case Registered

The Jammu and Kashmir police initiated investigations into the civilian killings in Kulgam district on Sunday after filing a case.

The police sources said that the investigations were launched to ascertain the facts as how the explosive on the encounter site exploded in which six civilians died after they rushed to the spot following the killing of militants.

The case has been registered in the local police station in this regard while the ADGP Law and order Muneer Ahmad Khan expressed regrets over the civilian killings.

The separatists have asked for complete shutdown on Monday against the killings.

The police spokesperson confirmed that the case has been registered and the investigation has been started.

“After the conclusion of encounter as the forces moved out, the locals from the area started assembling at the site of encounter and had apparently fiddled with some stray explosive materials leading to an explosion. Consequently some individuals sustained grievous injuries and some of the injured identified as Ubaid Shah, Tajamul, Irshad Ahmad Padder, Uzair Ahmad & Masroor Ahmad unfortunately succumbed when brought to hospitals, besides five other injured are undergoing treatment,” the official statement reads.

Earlier, three militants died in an encounter after forces led the siege of Kulgam village who were identified as Shahid Ahmad Tantary S/o Ab. Rashid Tantary R/o Wangam Shopian, Zubair Ahmad Lone S/o Manzoor Ahmad Lone R/o Ahwatoo Kulgam and Yazil Ahmad Makroo S/o Mushtaq Ahmad R/o Arwani Bijbehara and arms and ammunition were recovered from the spot.

Although the police has again appealed to the common people of not visiting the encounter sites until the spot is cleared from debris and properly sanitized, the authorities said that huge mob on Sunday morning rushed to the encounter site where the explosive went off taking the civilian lives.

The killings have caused the panic in valley and the situation is tense.
