SRINAGAR: During the past 24 hours due to major power breakdown following snowfall, Kashmir valley plunged into darkness besides at many other places electricity went off late Friday evening after incessant rains.

The breakdown has punctured the tall claims of the Power Development Department (PDD) who claimed that all arrangements were made for electricity supply to consumers during winter.

Immediately after snowfall started in Srinagar yesterday afternoon, electricity supply to major parts of the city was snapped

Residents of certain areas said that the power broke down in their areas late Friday evening after heavy rains.

The power scenario has worsened after snowfall particularly in southern Parts of Kashmir.

Reports said that transmission lines were damaged as trees were uprooted and fell on the lines disrupting power supply.

Officials at the PDD Sunday afternoon told  that the electricity has been restored in certain parts of the city and hoped that the electricity will be restored in other parts of the valley by Sunday evening.

They, however, said that the restoration will take time in southern parts of the valley as the snowfall has caused incessant damages to the transmission lines. (PTK)
