Militant Killed In Pulwama Gunfight; Curfew Imposed In Town

Srinagar;A militant was killed during a gunfight with the government forces in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday, police said.

A police official said that army men of 55 RR, CRPF personnel and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police laid a siege around a cluster of houses in Babgund area of Pulwama town and started door to door search operations around 2am.

Militants hiding in one of the residential houses fired upon the forces, triggering a gunfight, said the official, adding that one militant was killed during the exchange of fire.

THe identified the slain militant as Shabir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Samboora.

Meanwhile, a police official said that curfew has been imposed in entire Pulwama town “as a precautionary measure” to prevent protests.
