J&K: Police arrest 178 drug peddlers, seize contraband worth Rs 52 cr in Baramulla

Police have arrested 178 drug peddlers under the Narco Act and seized contraband worth Rs 52 crore during the past six months in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.


Police on Monday said under the aegis of the Drug-Free Baramulla campaign and continuing its action against drug menace since January 2024, 105 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were registered during the past six months.


It said 178 drug peddlers, including 45 hard-core ones, have been booked under PIT NDPS Act and 15 vehicles have been seized for the commission of the crime in the district so far.


Police have also recovered contraband and psychotropic substances worth 52 crore (value of contraband in black market).


Police have also attached the illegal drug properties of 12 notorious drug peddlers worth Rs 5.72 crore, comprising 7 residential houses, 1 shopping complex, 5 vehicles, and 2 land plots.


Baramulla Police remains steadfast in its commitment to confront drug smugglers and to seize both movable and immovable property used for illicit trafficking within the district.


Police have also organised 19 drug awareness camps in educational institutions, villages, and other areas of the district, in which resource persons from the Police Drug De-addiction Centre Baramulla delivered lectures to the common masses, students, and respectable, imams in order to educate the public and students about the dangers of drug abuse and prevention strategies.
