Srinagar, July 24:  Hurriyat Conference (M) on Tuesday strongly denounced government decision of caging its chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his Nigeen residence and not allowing him to attend a seminar on the plight of prisoners organised by JRL and also barring him from attending Awami Action Committee (AAC) meet at Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal.

“This reflects the frustration and complete highhandedness of the authorities,” a Hurriyat (M) spokesperson said in a statement issued to GNS.

He said that a large contingent of forces and police was also deployed outside Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal “to create an atmosphere of fear and to ensure that workers couldn’t assemble at the venue for participation in the meeting”.

“Disallowing the participation of leadership in peaceful public meetings, seminars and gatherings is reflective of the iron fist policy of the govt and clearly indicates the fact that there is absolutely no space for any peaceful political activity in Kashmir,” he said, adding, “These measures cannot cow down the leadership or the freedom loving people of Kashmir into submission.”

The spokesperson also condemned the detention of senior Hurriyat (M) leader Mukhtar Ahmed Waza along with his colleagues and lodging them in police station Sheerbagh Anantnag.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed his heartfelt condolences with JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik on the demise of his close relative Ghulam Ahmed Sheikh of Maisuma.

Mirwaiz prayed for highest standards in Jannah for the deceased and patience to the bereaved family members, the statement said. (GNS)
