Thousands attend funeral prayers of slain militants, clashes erupt in Hajin Call HR HR HR
Srinagar: On World Human Rights Day, Kashmir valley observed complete shutdown on Monday in response to the call given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) against violations in Valley. All the shops, fuel stations, business establishments remained closed for the day. The traffic remained thin on the roads as cabs and three wheelers were seen plying on roads.
Reports reaching to KNO from old city areas including Nawa Kadal, Rajori Kadal, Fateh Kadal, Khanyar, Baba Demp, Nowhatta Eidgah, Rainawari, Saraf Kadal, Darish Kadal and Safa Kadal wore deserted looks. However, thin traffic was plying in Lal Chowk, Goni Khan, Moulana Azad road, Sonawar, Residency road and Batmaloo areas here.
JRL, comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, and Muhammad Yasin Malik on Saturday asked the people of Kashmir to observe complete protest strike on December 10 to highlight the “horrible human rights violations”. JRL had asked people to observe the week from Dec 3 to 9 as human rights week.
Reports reaching KNO said, in Hajin area of Bandipora district in North Kashmir, intense clashes erupted after the funeral prayers of slain militants, Mudasir Ahmad Parrey and Saqib Ahmad ended.
The duo was killed in Mijgund encounter. Pertinently, thousands of people aattended the funeral prayers of slain militants during which they raised slogans in favour of ‘Azadi’. Sources said that hundreds of youth hit the streets and chanted anti-India and pro-freedom slogan.
Following the culmination of last rites of the slain militants, the protesting youth later pelted stones on government forces however they used tear smoke shells by the forces. No injuries were reported from either side of the clashes, reports said.(KNO)
