Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) leaders and activists held peaceful protests after congregational Friday prayers at Hyderpora here. A Hurriyat (G) statement issued to GNS said the Hurriyat leaders and people voiced serious concern over the spree of killings. They demanded immediate halt on innocent killings and “arbitrary measures” perpetrated by forces and appealed world human rights organizations to come to the rescue of people of Kashmir.

Addressing the protestors, the Hurriyat (G) leaders said, “The growing Indian aggression against unarmed and peaceful people in the state has touched the alarming line and turned this beautiful place into a battlefield. Under a well thought out plane, the Indian authorities and their forces are carrying genocide.”

The leaders expressed deep anguish over the continuous silence of the international community on Kashmir and said that though several resolutions were accepted in UNO to resolve this long pending issue, however, no steps were initiated.

To put an end to hostilities in the subcontinent, the international community should take concrete political steps to resolve the longstanding Kashmir dispute.

Criticising New Delhi for its “rhetoric about so-called democracy and freedom of speech”, the leaders said that their tall claims about freedom of expression and democracy stand exposed as they didn’t dare to face pro-freedom leadership.

The leaders appealed Amnesty International, Asia Watch and other international human rights organizations to break the silence and take cognizance of the plight of “suppressed and oppressed” people in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. (GNS)
