All security arrangements have been put in place for the smooth conduct of Independence Day on 15 August in Kashmir valley and all aspects of the Shopian encounter are being checked, says IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar.
The IGP Kashmir while talking to reporters at Srinagar said that foolproof security arrangements have been put in place and there will be ground and aerial surveillance to keep the eye on suspects.
“Militant presence is there but we are ready to foil all their plans and ensure smooth conduct of I-Day function across Kashmir including Srinagar,” the IGP said while urging people to cooperate with the security forces during the frisking operations that have been intensified across the Valley especially the capital city of Srinagar.
On asking about the 18 July Shopian encounter, he said a police team led by a DSP rank officer from Kashmir has gone to Rajouri to complete legal formalities with regard to the missing of three Rajouri persons.
“We have taken the DNA samples of three militants killed in Shopian encounter which will be sent to Central Laboratory to ascertain the facts,” he said, adding that we have to investigate every aspect of the encounter.
“Besides checking their DNA samples, we are investigating whether the trio were in touch with militants or not,” he said that their call details are being checked and all other aspects are also being taken into consideration.
Families of an 18-year-old Abrar Ahmed Khan son of Bagha Khan, 26-year old Imtiyaz Hussain son of Sabir Hussain, both residents of Dhar Sakri of Tehsil Qotranka of Rajouri and 21-year-old Abrar Ahmed son of Muhammad Yousuf of Tarkasi village of the same Tehsil have filed their missing report at concerned police station besides claiming that their sons have killed in Amshipora encounter.
Families have also demanded an independent probe in this regard.
Meanwhile, IGP also said that on specific information about the presence of militants in Barsoo area of Awantipora, government forces launched search operation in the area.
Militants managed to escape, however, the hideout was busted and a large number of arms and ammunition was recovered from the hide, he said. (PTK)
