Asks forces to ensure Pulwama like incidents are not repeated

Srinagar: Former chief minister and NC president, Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday pitched for the early elections in Jammu and Kashmir, saying that the Governor’s and President’s rule in the State should end and people should get their elected representatives.

According to KNO correspondent, the NC president while welcoming the PDP senior leaders including Peer Muhammad Hussain and Syed Basharat Bukhari told media persons that the elections in Jammu and Kashmir should be held soon so that the people can get their elected representatives. “Any positive step is welcomed by the party and anyone wants to join NC will be welcomed,” he said.

However, he termed the Governor’s rule as ‘autocratic’, saying that they hope the Governor will not take any step that can push the democratic process back. About Pulwama incidents that left seven civilian dead, Dr Abdullah asked forces and Central government to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.

“It could have been better in case the forces could have used water cannons and tear gas canisters rather than using bullets against the unarmed people,” he said, adding that “we hope New Delhi and forces will ensure that Pulwama like incidents are not repeated.”(KNO)
