With the arrival of the Holy month of Ramadhan- the month in which muslims keep fast from dawn to dusk as a religious duty, there has been a shift in small businesses mostly in muslim dominant areas.
The holy month of Ramadhan put forward the demand for different commodities especially food items which are rarely used in all the other months of the year. The main food items which are used in the month of Ramadhan are dates, Sewain, Sooji, Dry fruits, Sharbats, sweet bazil seeds etc.
“We do this business only during the month of Ramadhan as there is great demand for dates in this month. During other months we do some other different business as there is least demand for dates after the Ramadhan.
Switching over to the different businesses what the month of Ramadhan demands proves very profitable for the sellers.
The dates are the most selling food commodity in the fasting month with Muslims preferring to break the fasts with it.
“We sell different kinds of dates. The cost of dates differs depending on the quality of product. Says shopkeeper Bashir Ahamd at Lal Chowk.
DilBahar Ice cream a reputed ice cream shop located at Goni khan Lal Chowk also switches over to the business of dates.
