CBI arrests revenue official in JK’s Ramban for accepting bribe

The sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Revenue official in Banihal tehsil of Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir for accepting bribe of Rs 18,000.

An official spokesman on Tuesday said that the CBI team has arrested the accused Mohammad Ishaq Bhat at his Office in Qanoongo and working as Tehsildar in Banihal tehsil of Ramban district in J&K on allegations that he demanded a bribe of Rs.20,000 from the complainant for processing his application for land settlement.

After negotiations, the accused agreed to accept the bribe amount of Rs.18,000 from the complainant, he said.

The spokesman added that the CBI laid a trap on Monday and caught him red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs.18,000 from the complainant.

Searches were conducted at residential and official premises of the accused which led to recovery of Rs.3,71,500 (approximately) cash and other documents, the spokesman said, adding, investigation into the matter is in progress.
