Halting funds of Rural development

1 min read

The works in the Rural Development Department are at grinding halt across the most of the places in Jammu and Kashmir. The officials in the department blame the higher authorities for not issuing the funds to the concerned departments to execute the developmental works.

According to officials the fourteenth financial plan which was extended and underway till March this year was suddenly pulled back. All the funds available with the concerned departments were retrieved from the accounts, therefore forcing the department to stop works being undertaken in Rural areas.

The fifteenth financial plan is yet to be released. All the officials are pinning hopes on it and expecting to execute the works once the funds under the fresh plan are released. It is the midst of the season when most of the works could be started.

The government can’t afford to halt the rural development which serves as the backbone of our economy and at the sametime inhabitates 70 per cent of country’s population. It has also badly affected the performance of local representatives who faces the wrath of people.

Halting the development and prioritized other issues cannot augur well for the country. Development must be prioritized and at the earliest shall approve the fresh plan and ensure free flow of funds for the development of the rural pockets.
