Body Of ‘Murdered’ Kashmir Businessman Reach Kupwara

The body of a Kupwara businessman, who was allegedly murdered in Punjab last week, reached his native village in north Kashmir district on Monday, amid protests.

2016_4$largeimg211_Apr_2016_103949800Maqsood Ahmad Shah (27) son of Mohammad Dilawer Shah was found dead at village Parjian Kalan in jurisdiction of Mehatpur police station of Jalandhar district in Punjab on Saturday.

Soon after the body reached Kralpora, hundreds of people who were already gathered there since morning took the body in a procession towards their village Thandipora amid massive sloganeering. The protesters were demanding stern action against the culprits.

“As the body reached Thandipora village for last rites, a pal of gloom descended in the entire area with women wailing and beating their chests,” Javid Iqbal , a neighbour of the deceased told media.

Maqsood, father of three children, a resident of Thandipora Kralpora had gone missing on April 2.

Maqsood was into shawl business in Shahkot area of Punjab province and was there since November last, said his younger brother Shah Zaman.

“His family came to know that their son was missing and family members including his brother Shah Zaman rushed to Shahkot where they filed a missing report”.

SSP Rural Harmohan Singh had told GNS over phone that they have received a complaint on April 4 regarding the missing of the businessman and the investigations have been launched immediately.

He had said that the victim’s legs were tied and he has been apparently strangulated. “A wire was also found tied around his neck,” he had said.

A case FIR No 48 u/s 302, 201 IPC has been registered and further investigations has been launched, he had said.

The SSP had assured that culprits will be arrested soon and strict action will be initiated against those behind the murder.(Agencies)
