The resentment among the people in Kashmir is growing against the prevailing VIP culture after reports surfaced that Khanyar woman who was tested positive made an exit from VIP gate at Srinagar airport for being the mother in law of top police cop.

Most of the netizens in Kashmir have broken their silence and blame the VVIP culture in Kashmir for plunging the 7 million lives in danger.

The 65 year old lady who was the first positive case for Covid 19 after returning from pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia is the mother in law of SSP Crime Imtiaz Ismail Parray. She had not been screened at Srinagar airport after reportedly Parray escorted her from the VIP gate to home.

“Welcome to Kashmir: A foreign-return traveler lands at Srinagar Airport. Uses her VIP influence bcz ‘uska damaad police officer hai’ and escapes the mandatory screening. Later tests positive and puts whole valley in danger. The said officer takes high moral ground by saying he is putting himself in isolation and ‘following necessary protocol’, and then preaches others to ‘leave nothing to chance and follow govt directives strictly’. Gets praised by one and all. He should be credited/ awarded now for keeping alive the tradition of Kashmir’s,” writes Muneeb Ul Haq on his facebook wall.

“VIP culture must be end as its basic cause of corruption and encourage others for corruption. Can anybody take action against this grave crime? Imtiaz Ismail Parray, whose mother-in-law from Srinagar city became the first positive case of coronavirus in the Valley on Wednesday, said although he had no direct contact with her after her return from Saudi Arabia, he was still going into isolation and urged people to leave nothing to chance,” he writes, adding that Parray’s move was hailed by other police and civil officers. “Proud of you @imtiazismailp sb (sahab),” District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Shahid Choudhary wrote.

Hajaj says instead of hailing action must be taken against this carelessness which may prove disaster for whole Kashmir.

A renowned social activist Quratul Ain Masoodi urges government to take action against the officer in case he is proven guilty. This is sheer misuse of power that has put entirely the population of Kashmir in danger. How can this appreciated by other officers,” she told The Legitimate. Pertinently, after the expose, the senior police officer decided to go in self quarantine along with other officers who accompanied him to airport for receiving his mother-in-law.

Masoodi says that after the abrogation of Article 370, it was hoped that culture of privileges and VIP will end but this incident has again dashed our hopes and expectations.

“One officer is committing a sin and the others are lauding him. Imagine if this was being done by a common man, the situation could have been entirely different,” she rues.

“Actual VIP is one who offers him/herself for COVID-19 screening. So be the real VIPs not fake VIPs,” Rasik Rasool another social activist writes on his wall while demanding action against the cop.
