Srinagar: The inhabitants from Wachi constituency of South Kashmir’s Shopian district Thursday staged a protest accusing former MLA of using influence to get the sanctioned Degree College shifted from Wachi to Reshipora.

Scores of inhabitants from Wachi and its adjoining areas including Darbagh, Chek, Safanagri, Aglar, Naina, Kawoni, Bandina assembled here in Press Enclave Srinagar and demanded that a the Degree College that has been sanctioned by government should be set in Wachi.

“The government had intended to set up this college at Zainpora but shelved the plan due to non-availability of land.

We offered land measuring 85 kanals to government free of cost. Unfortunately, the former MLA Ajaz Ahmed intervened into the matter and pressurized the government to set up this college at Reshipora where people are neither interested nor any land is available there,” the protesters told news agency CNS.

They alleged that despite fulfilling all the formalities their file has been gathering dust at DC office. “We request government to set up this college at Wachi as people badly need it.
