Srinagar: In a major counter insurgency operation on Sunday four militants, two soldiers and two civilians got killed while several got injured in south Kashmir’s Frisal village of Kulgam district.
The fight between the rebels and government forces broke out after a siege was laid outside the Frisal village on specific inputs about the presence of around 7 rebels in one of the residential houses.
As soon the siege was laid by the Counter Insurgency force, ist Rashtriya Rifiles and 18th BN of CRPF, the militants, official said holed inside fired indiscriminately to break the cordon.
“Our two soldiers got killed in the firing by the rebels. But the four of them were neutralized in the holed house and three more rebels managed to run away,” the security official divulged to The Legitimate.
The two soldiers, officials identified as Raguveer Singh and Bandoriya Gopal Singh. Two more soldiers also suffered bullet injuries in the gun fight.
The melee began at the spot of gun battle when hundred of local rebel sympathisers tried to break the security gridlock and pave way for the trapped militants to run. The forces challenged the massive crowd firing pepper gas, tear smoke shells and bullets in air. The locals accused the forces of taking a son of house owner where militants were holed as human shield.
“38 year old Ashique and his brother were taken as human shield by the forces during encounter. Though Danish managed to come out of the house but Ashiq was killed and his body was retrieved with militants from debris,” locals blamed.
The government forces, however, terms the allegations baseless and said that Ashique was held hostage by the rebels in the house.
“It is perhaps for the first time that militants held hostage any civilian,” said Brigadier R Chakrwarty, Commanding Officer of Sector-1 of Army. “We made the best possible efforts to rescue the civilian. We also made the elderly people to use a Public Address System to urge the civilian to come out of the house, but he didn’t.”
The civilian Mushtaq Ahmad of Srigufwara was also killed who was part of a mob attempting to break the cordon.
25 more civilians also received injuries after government forces used force to demoralize the crowd of hundreds of people attempted to break into the spot of an encounter to help militants. The injured have been shifted to various hospitals in Srinagar and Anantnag for treatment.
The slain militants belong to Lashker-e-toiba and Hizbul Mujahidin. The outfits paid rich tribute to the slain militants in their official release to the media.
“Four local Hizb militants put up a brave show during the night-long gun-battle. Our militants resisted the Indian might and killed many army-men. Several Indian soldiers were killed while many of them suffered disabilities. Security establishments hide the truth to stop demoralizing their men.”
They warned of similar but more aggressive gun fights against the tate in future.
“The attacks on Indian Security Bases will continue till the Freedom Movement is not taken to its logical conclusion,” Burhanuddin, the spokesman said, adding: “The youth are sacrificing their lives for a sacred cause and we will never compromise with their holy blood.”
Meanwhile, the Kashmir is observing complete shutdown on the call of separatists against the civilian killings.
