Controversial Islamic preacher and founder of Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) Zakir Naik said that India is still unsafe for him and said that the reports of his return to India are baseless.

Dr Naik has left for Malaysia after he was charged in the Indian court for his alleged controversial speech which had inspired two Bangladeshi to involve in terrorist attack on July 1, 2016.

“I would love to come to my homeland India, but once I feel that I am safe,” Naik said. These are false conjectures regarding my return. Right now I am in Malaysia and have no idea to come to India, he added.

The Islamic Scholar has been staying abroad since Indian Government has put allegations on him including for alleged hate speech and money laundering, in India hence to evade arrest.

Earlier, it was National Investigation Agency (NIA) that first registered a case against the 51-year-old Naik under anti- terror laws in 2016 for perpetuating antagonism between different religious groups throughout the world.

In collaboration with Mumbai police NIA had carried out some searches at different places in Mumbai including his residential premises along with some of the office bearers who were involved in supporting the foundations run by Naik.

In this regard the Home Ministry had restricted the foundation for receiving funds from abroad.

According to sources earlier, the Interpol had rejected the RCN due to not filing a charge sheet in any Indian court after the request was sent by NIA through CBI against Naik. However, the request by NIA was sent in May 2017 but charge sheet was filed only in the October same year.
