Tell us   about your childhood days?

My childhood was very happy as I spent lot of time with my father who is also my mentor and my guide. I have learned music from him and have a younger sister and we would both sing together.

Party songs and Shefali have become synonymous. Any specific reasons?

I hope to change that soon! I’ve loved the party songs that I have sung in the past and I’m hoping to try different things in the future.

You are a type of quiet celebrity, why so?

I love what I do. But I believe one must have a private life and a social life. When at work I am quite active and when I’m home I’m a quiet soul.

How has marriage impacted your career?

Marriage has not in any way impacted my career. I think I have found the perfect balance as I’m still singing and doing shows travelling all over. I took a year off and had a beautiful baby girl and now I’m back to the work.

What has been the defining moment of life so far?

Many defining moments I think in my life I have passed my childhood, grew up and got married. Although, the interesting movement would be having a baby my daughter Alizeh, but it is most defining as I’m a mother now and I love everything about motherhood.

Your current projects?

I‘ve just performed at Gima awards with the ever so talented Jeet Ganguly and soon I am off to Ahmedabad to perform with Amit Trivedi and Divya Kumar. I have a song out next month. I will update details when it’s ready to launch. I am working on some videos and revamping songs of the past also. I have also shot an episode for the show sound trek for fox life that was recently telecasted on Television.

Are you satisfied with status and progress of jazz music in India?

Jazz music in India still needs to grow a lot. It has changed over the past couple of years as there are some incredible new young talented musicians and they are performing at different places and making good impact. I hope to travel all over the world doing some jazz shows as well as Bollywood gigs.

You have specific love for wildlife too?

I love nature especially animals and everything wild. I believe we are all wild beings and I believe we don’t need to be tamed. I live in the forest in Satpura, Madhya Pradesh where my husband runs a jungle lodge called Reni Pani jungle lodge and it’s a beautiful and it has a peaceful surroundings with Leopards, Bears, Tigers, Deer and many other special creatures. We are lucky to have this and my baby is super lucky to be growing up in the real world!

You visited Kashmir few years back, your take on Kashmir and its people?

Kashmir is an amazing and wonderful place and people of Kashmir are very much hospitable and awesome.
