‘Use Of Bleaching Powder Hits Fish Production In Nallah Sindh’

Srinagar: The local populace in and around Nallah Sindh in various villages of Ganderbal have resorted to another technique of catching fishes, that has in turn drastically affected the fish production in the river.

The fisheries department which is supposed to monitor the wrongdoings are silently overseeing it.

Sources said with Fisheries department in deep slumber, locals especially the fishermen are bleaching powder to catch fishes in the river Sindh.

“The bleaching power is easily available with PHE department, which use the powder for chlorination. However, some people manage to get the powder and put it into misuse. They throw this bleaching powder into flowing water, which makes the fishes unconscious,” a local said.

He said after the use of bleaching power, the fishes move out of water towards land, makes it easy for the fishermen to catch them.

Sources said that bleaching powder is also on sale in different area in Ganderbal.

Besides, it has been said the excessive use of bleaching power has hit the fish production.

When contacted DC Ganderbal Tariq Hussain Ganaie said, “I can’t talk about it. How can I trust that you are a media person? Come to my office and let’s talk here,” he said. (PTK)
