Top Hizb Commander Sabzar Killed In South Kashmir Gunfight

Sabzar was the close aide of former militant commander Burhan Muzaffer Wani. Burhan was killed last year in July in Bamdooru village of Kokernag by security forces triggering valley wide six months uprising.

Srinagar: A top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat has been killed in an ongoing encounter at Saimoo village in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday morning.

A gunfight started at Saimoo village on late Friday evening after a joint team of forces was fired upon by militant in the area.

The gunfight continued intermittently throughout the night and today at wee hours the exchange of fire was intensified, reports said

They said that two residential houses were so far razed into rubble by using motor shells.

In the encounter, the hizb commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat was killed. Sabzar was the close aide of former militant commander Burhan Muzaffer Wani. Burhan was killed last year in July in Bamdooru village of Kokernag by security forces triggering valley wide six months uprising.

As the news about the encounter spread in the area, massive clashes amid protests reported in parts of Tral and its adjoining areas.  (GNS)
