The government teachers have called for protests on January 11 against the decision of the state to appoint KAS officers as the joint directors in the education department.
Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF) Wednesday said that that they won’t allow baton chargers to run the sector.
While talking to KNS over phone, Abdul Qayoom Wani, President of the Forum, said that they have decided to stage demonstration in Jammu, Ladakh and Srinagar on January 11 against the government’s move to appoint KAS officers as the senior officials in the education sector.
“There are three reasons behind the protest which include screening test for ReT’s, banning of private practice of teachers and the government move to appoint KAS officers in the sector,” he said.
He said that everyone including, teaching faculty, non-teaching faculty and others are going to take part in the protest. “We are well aware how to run the education sector in the state. ‘Hume danda chalaane waalu ki zarurat nhi hai’ (we don’t need baton chargers to run the sector),” he said.
He said that the protest will leave a message to the government so that they will change its policy towards the education sector. “The decision of government is putting question mark on the credibility of senior officials present in the department. The officials are capable to run the sector but the government is creating hindrance in their way by announcing such kind of things,” he said.
The decision to appoint KAS officers was taken in the Cabinet Sub Committee (CSC) in which all the four members of the CSC were present. They included Education Minister Naeem Akhter and Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu (both from PDP), Health and Medical Education Minister Choudhary Lal Singh and Animal Husbandry and Science and Technology Minister Sajjad Lone.
Wani further told KNS that they have already said that they will boycott the test. “ReT’s have passed their degree’s in reputed universities. If the government is not accepting their certificates then they should derecognize those universities instead of announcing screening test,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said that the government has left students on god’s mercy as by banning the private practice of teachers, the students are facing tough time as nobody is teaching them in the coaching centres. “There will not be any impact by opening the coaching centres in the Valley as there are thousands of students who are not getting tuition from any centres due to the lack of teaching faculty there,” he said.
He told KNS that if the government is serious in this regard then they should lif the ban on private practice at earliest. “We are not against opening coaching centres but due to imposing ban on private practice, students in large number are suffering,” he said. (KNS)
