Srinagar: An army soldier was injured in a gunfight at Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday.

A police officer told GNS that a joint team of army, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation at Hayuna village of Tral following specific information about the presence of some militants.

As the joint team of forces fired some warning shots, the militants hiding inside the village opened fire which resulted into an encounter, he said. In the initial exchange of gunfire, a trooper suffered serious bullet wounds and was hospitalised, he said.

Pertinently, this is the first encounter in the area following the calling off of the unilateral ceasefire by the government of India in Kashmir during the month of Ramadhan. (GNS)
