Srinagar: A minor boy was among two persons injured in HMT area after security forces fired pepper gas and teargas shells in the evening after the latter were winding up their deployment duty.

According to KNS correspondent, Muneeb Ahmad Wagay, 18, of Mustafa Abad, Zainakote, was wounded after a teargas shell fired by security forces hit his hand. Wagay was rushed to SKIMS, locals said.

Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, 65, was injured and he bled through mouth due to asphyxiation after inhaling pepper gas at his residence. The shells were fired by security forces to disperse protesters in Zainkoot in Srinagar outskirts.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Kashmir range, Ghulam Hassan Bhat told KNS that the boy has received minor injuries in his fingers.

The DIG said that overall the situation remained normal in the area, barring some mild protests by people, which was dispersed by security forces by firing few teargas shells in air.

Normal life was disturbed in major parts of state’s summer capital, Srinagar, due to the curfew-like restrictions imposed by authorities to thwart the ‘HMT Chalo’ solidarity march called by separatists.

Strict restrictions were in place in areas falling under five police stations in Kralkhud, M.R. Gunj, Safakadal, Nowhatta, Khanyar and Rainawari, Maisuma and Parimpora.

Shops, business units and government offices were shut in these parts. Localities including Bemina, Qamarwari, Parimpora and Zainakoot remained shut during the day.

Police had placed barricades and razor wire spools near Degree College Bemina, Cement Bridge and Narbal to block those people who attempted to move towards HMT.

However, barring these areas life was normal in rest of the Valley as public and private transport was smoothly moving on roads.

Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Lone yesterday evening told KNS that restrictions will be imposed in these areas.

Hurriyat (G) Conference Chairman Syed Ali Geelani had appealed people to march towards Mustafabad, HMT, the residence of slain youth, Gowhar Ahmad Dar, 22, killed by a tear gas shell fired by CRPF, to offer condolence and to express solidarity with his family.

The 22-year-old engineering student was killed on November 7 the day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Srinagar for his rally. (KNS)
