Quake 5.4 Magnitude Rocks Kashmir Valley

A moderate intensity quake, measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale, rocked Kashmir valley, in the wee hours, reports said on Wednesday.

A Met department spokesperson said that the tremor, which  was felt at 0449 hrs, lasted a few seconds. The quake was epicentred somewhere in Hindukush mountains in Afghanistan. There was no immediate report of any loss of life or damage to property.

People rushed out of their homes in panic following reports in local media quoting experts that a severe above 8 magnitude quake was due in the Himalayan region, including Jammu and Kashmir.(Agencies)
