A Qatari businessman plans to fly 4,000 cows into the country to maintain milk supplies during the blockade by the tiny emirate’s Gulf neighbors, the Independent reported.
“This is the time to work for Qatar,” said Moutaz Al Khayyat, chairman of Power International Holding, who bought the 1,300-pound beasts in the US and Australia.
It will take about 60 flights for Qatar Airways to conduct what is being described as the greatest bovine
airlift in history.
Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt cut diplomatic, economic and transportation ties with Qatar on June 5, accusing it of supporting Islamist groups.
The sheikhdom — which has strongly denied the accusation — has moved to open trade routes from Iran, Turkey and Oman to import food, building materials and equipment for its natural-gas industry.

Turkish dairy products have been flown in, while Iranian fruit and vegetables are on the way. Signs with colors of the Qatari flag have been placed next to dairy products in stores.
“It’s a message of defiance, that we don’t need others,” said government worker Umm Issa, 40, before picking up a carton of Turkish milk to try.

Al Khayyat’s main business is a construction firm that built Qatar’s biggest mall.
