Protests seeking justice for Kathua girl turn violent in Anantnag, seven injured

Srinagar: At least seven students were injured as protests over justice for minor Kathua girl turned violent in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.

Reports quoting eyewitnesses told GNS that students carrying banners assembled at KP road and took out a protest march seeking justice for Asia.

Soon clashes between forces and students erupted leading to the closure of shops and other business establishments in the town. Police used tear gas shells and baton charged the protesting students, leading to injuries to seven of them, they said.

Among the injured include two girls, they said.A senior doctor at Anantnag district hospital told GNS that five injured students were received at the hospital and one of them has been shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment.

Two other students were provided first aid locally, the reports added.

Meanwhile, an official said that all the educational institutions were closed in the town for the day in wake of the protests and clashes in the area. (GNS)
