More than 21 lakh people have been infected with HIV virus in India which has the third largest population of those affected by the disease, Lok Sabha was informed on Friday.
As per India HIV estimation 2015 report, an estimated 21.17 la
kh people are living with HIV.
“India has the third largest number of people living with HIV in the world. The other two countries having higher numbers are South Africa (68 lakh) and Nigeria (34 lakhs) – source UNAIDS estimates 2014,” Union Health Minister J P Nadda said in a written reply. (Agencies)
