Residents protest, demand body of slain militant

Srinagar: A militant was killed in an encounter that raged between forces and militants in the wee hours of Thursday morning in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
According to KNS correspondent, Bhat Zahoor, after specific information about the presence of militants in the Gujjarpatti Aragam area of Bandipora, 13 RR Aragam cordoned off the area. “One militant was killed during the encounter,” sources said.
Sources told KNS that a militant who was hiding in the area opened fire and tried to break the forces cordon. “Nonetheless, forces engaged him in a gunfight,” they said.
Meanwhile, soon after the encounter ended in the area, the resident as per KNS correspondent staged protests demanding body of the slain militant.
However, forces used tear gas canisters to disperse the protesters during which scores of people were injured while one among the injured was shifted to Srinagar’s SKIMS hospital for specialized treatment. (KNS)
