Srinagar: A New Delhi based citizens group urged Government of India on Friday to initiate dialogue as promised In the Agenda of Alliance between People’s Democratic Party and Bhartiya Janata Party.

“We urge the central Government to urgently initiate political dialogue to prevent recurrence of violence and restore faith of people in democratic process to resolve their grievance. A continued reliance on military measures alone to sort out a problem which is entirely political is short sighted, to say the least and a great disservice to the nation”, the group said.

“Conditions conducive to a dialogue that can restore peace, calm and sanity must be enabled. For this the state Government and centre need to show exemplary restraint in either deploying force or adopting innovative measures which can backfire in dealing with protesters”

The group said the recurrence of protests, student protests and the video war on the social media in Kashmir was disturbing.

“The situation in Kashmir is only deteriorating day by day. Already we have witnessed too many deaths, maiming and blinding in Kashmir last summer. Nobody in his right mind should want a reputation of the events of 2016- not the government and certainly not the Kashmiri civilians”

The group that came up with the statement comprised fifteen eminent members including former External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha.

The statement came when the situation in the valley is leading to unrest like in 2016.
