Jammu and Kashmir is not anybody’ “personal property” and the state belongs to people of this land, said Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani on Thursday.

f6518daf-581e-402d-8cf7-886becb34802The Hurriyat Conference (g) chairperson was reacting to Indian ‘draft bill that imposes fine and imprisonment for not showing Kashmir as part of its map’.

“People of this land are authorized to decide the future of this state,” Geelani said in a statement issued this evening.

“Mentioning Jammu & Kashmir as part of India on the pieces of paper will not change the reality and nor can be the thinking and aspirations of Kashmiris people changed in this way. The disputed nature of Jammu & Kashmir has been acknowledged at the international level and with the help of Geo Special Information Regulation Bill like self-structured ways, India can’t change the disputed status of Kashmir. Kashmiris have resisted the forced occupation of India in the past and they will continue their struggle against the Indian oppression,” the octogenarian Hurriyat leader said.

India since 1947, Geelani said, “is making laws and plans to justify its illegal and forced occupation on Jammu & Kashmir but these tactics failed to change the ground situation here. The freedom sentiments of Kashmiri people have grown stronger with each passing day and they haven’t surrendered before the naked oppression of India.”

“Instead of daydreaming about the Kashmir,” Geelani told the policy makers, “they should prepare themselves to accept and absorb the reality and truth in this regard. The traditional policies of India regarding to Kashmir had failed in every ways. It is better for them to fulfil their promises and let the Kashmiris to decide their future so that the money spent by India over its huge military expenditure will be used for feeding the millions of poor and shelter less people of this country.”(Agencies)
