Hurriyat (G) Protests, Demand Release of Prisoners

Srinagar: Scores of Hurriyat (G) activists Thursday staged a sit-in protest against the state administration for “illegal” detention of political leaders and youth as well.

Holding banners displaying ‘Appeal to International community, save our kids from arrest, Torture and detention’ and were raising slogans against the state administration.

According to KNS correspondent, the protesters assemble at Srinagar’s press enclave and stage sit in protest to press the administration to meet their demands.

While talking to KNS, the activists demand that the political prisoners, Youth and other leaders who are currently languishing in different jails of Jammu and Kashmir should be released at earliest.

“The ‘undemocratic arrests in Valley’ continues in Kashmir Valley, which exposes the democracy of India. The health condition of persons languishing in different jails is deterioration with each passing day,” they said.

They alleged that prisoners lodged in different jails outside the state are meted out with ill treatment and alleged that most of them have been kept in solitary confinement.

They appealed the international organizations, working for upholding the human rights and humanity, Reshi said that it is the high time for the organizations to come forward over the issue so that the persons lying in the different jails would be released.

They further alleged that the forces are arresting the innocent youth and are harassing them by one way or other.

Hurriyat (G) on Wednesday released the list of political workers as well the youth who are languishing in different jails of Jammu and Kashmir.

“60 Kashmiri prisoners are lodged in district Jail Kotbalwal, Jammu, 15 in district jail Kuthua, 5 in district jail Hiranagar, 18 in district jail Kishtwar, 15 in Reasi, 15 in Poonch, 3 in Rajouri, 130 in central jail Srinagar, 15 in Baramulla, 8 in Kupwara, 8 in Islamabad and 15 in police station Humhama,” Hurriyat (G) said.
