Taking strong note of the detention of a Kupwara girl, Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Saturday asked SP Handwara and SHO Handwara to explain their position.
“Declare the law and authority under which you have kept in police custody a minor girl, her father and aunt,” HC directed Handwara police officials.
Pertinently, the same girl was allegedly molested by an army man, following which protests erupted in north Kashmir resulting in the killing of five civilians so far.
The court also directed police to produce the detained persons before the nearest court.
Earlier, a petition was filed by the mother of the said girl.(Agencies)
