ANANTNAG: Describing sports as an all season activity for the growth and development of youth, the Minister for Horticulture, Haj and Auqaf, Abdul Rehman Veeri Monday said that talented youth of the state need to be provided a platform both by family and Government to prove their mettle.

The Minister said this while distributing the prizes among the players at the concluding ceremony of Anantnag Cricket Champions League T20, organised by district police Anantnag.

The Minster said that youth of state are blessed with great talent and prowess and government is making concerted efforts to provide proper sports infrastructure to talented players to live their dreams and make their state proud at national and international events.

Commending the star cricket player, Parvez Rasool, for making his name in national and international cricket arena, the Minister hoped that efforts to create better sports environment in the State yield positive dividends and more players like Parvez come to fore and represent the state in various sports events.

Describing sports a tool of motivation and happiness among the children and youth alike, the Minister said that present dispensation under the leadership of Chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed has already initiated measures to improve sports in the state.

Laying stress on the schools and colleges to make extracurricular activities more participative rather than symbolic, the Minister said that government has ordered immediate restoration of playgrounds and playfields so that these are used for organizing inter-school, inter-college and inter-district sporting activities.

Appreciating the police department for providing platform to the youth, the Minister urged the police department to continue organising such activities in future also.

In the final match, played at Boys Degree College Anantnag, Bijbehara Sports Club beat Islamia cricket club.
