Geelani Demands Release Of Mehraj-ud-Din, Other Political Prisoners

While strongly condemning the arrest of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Raja Mehraj-ud-din on today, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani said that besides his ailing, aged mother at home, Mehraj is himself suffering from many aliments.
While demanding immediate release of Raja Mehraj-ud-din and all the political prisoners, Geelani said that Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and the Hurriyat Conference believe in peaceful political struggle and the government doesn’t have any constitutional or moral justification for detaining our leaders and activists.
In a statement, the Hurriyat (G) chairman expressed his deep concern over the health conditions of Mehraj sahab and his mother and said that he is the lone supporter of his family and if he is not immediately released, his ailing mother will not get the adequate medical treatment.
Hurriyat (G) Chairman said that the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Mehraj-ud-din sahab have many health issues and he is the patient of back pain from a very long time. He was out of the state in the month of February with regarding to his treatment.
The statement said that the police have also arrested two Tehreek-e-Hurriyat activists Fayaz Ahmad Bhat and Showkat Ahmad Malik of Kangan Gandarbal and many other activists are being searched there.
There are already dozens of Hurriyat Conference central as well as district officials behind the bars under the PSA and other black laws which include Masarat alam bhat, Ameer Hamza Shah, Mir Hafizullah, Abdul Gani Bhat, Mehraj-ud-Din Rubbani, Nasir Abdullah, Assadullah Parray, Hakeem Showkat, Mehraj-ud-Din Bangroo, Mohammad Amin Parray, Zubair Ahmad Turray, Danish Ahmad, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Adil Ahmad Mir, Bilal Ahmad, Tariq Ahmad and Irfan Ahmad and the government for some unknown reasons is not releasing them.
While demanding immediate release of all the political prisoners, Geelani said that the banning of political activities and illegal imprisonment of the political leaders is adding to the already disturbed political uncertainty and instability in the state and the people here are feeling suffocated in these situations. The state of Jammu & Kashmir is presently ruled by the police and the secret agencies of India and the law and order has been put on suspension.
Geelani appealed the Amnesty International and the other human rights organizations to take serious notice of the miserable condition of the Kashmiri prisoners and use their influence in making their release possible.(Agencies)
