Budget Session Starts On Noisy Note, Opposition Stages Walkout

The first budget session of Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly started with intense uproar as the opposition parties’ lead by National Conference staged a walkout.

As the Governor started his inaugural speech, the parties belonging to opposition raised anti government slogans by displaying banners reading, “Stop innocent killings in Kashmir”. They disrupted the speech of Governor by raising slogans like “PDP, BJP hai hai, Jumhoriyat kai qatilo hosh mai aao” before staging a walk out from the assembly. The assembly session completely when senior MLC from National Conformance started reading out written memorandum listing charges against the government. The opposition parties accused the coalition government of killing the essence of democracy, made the government responsible for killing of innocent lives and the grave human rights violations in the valley.

The legislature was supposed to take an obituary reference to former members who passed away since it met the last time. Independent MLA from Langate Engineer Sheikh Rashid pitched for the right to self-determination and called the chief minister a mere rubber stamp working on the diktats of Bhartiya Janta party.

Meanwhile the BJP accused the opposition parties of wasting precious time of the House, so creating a hurdle in the development process of the state.
