Amid the Center government’s silence on the continuing civilian killings and injuries by forces, the opposition parties in Center are mulling to send a delegation to the Valley where situation continues to be tense from the last nearly one month.
“We have held deliberation with different opposition parties in the country to send a delegation to Kashmir to assess the prevailing unrest. Talks are going on and a final decision might come out on Monday,” one of the opposition leaders told KNS.
Major parties like Congress, Left parties, including CPI (M), Janata Dal (U) are discussing about sending the delegation to Kashmir.
Among the leaders who have discussed about the delegation are Congress Opposition leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, AICC General Secretary Ambika Soni, CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, Sharad Yadav of Janata Dal (U), K C Tyagi of Janata Dal and D Raja from CPI.
The move of the opposition parties comes at a time when the Kashmir Valley is up in protests against the ongoing civilian killings and demands for resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
The leader said that the Government of India is showing an indifferent attitude towards the situation in Kashmir.
“People in Kashmir are getting more disillusioned with New Delhi because of the absence of any approach that BJP-led government is showing towards Kashmir,” he said.
“Now, it becomes more important for us as Opposition to send a delegation to Kashmir. We had approached the Government but they seem not serious about it. But we are very serious,” the leader added.
“We will raise the issue of crisis in Kashmir again in the Parliament before it concludes,” he said.
Unlike the government, the opposition parties and political leaders in the Valley have also been demanding breaking of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the prevailing Kashmir unrest, and sending all parties delegation to the Valley.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee Chief G A Mir told KNS that the opposition parties in New Delhi “have been thinking about” sending their delegation here if the BJP-led government maintains their silence on the ongoing unrest.
State secretary CPI (M) and MLA Kulgam, M Y Tarigami told KNS that the GoI is unmoved as of now.
“Now, if the opposition parties are thinking about it, it is welcome. They should visit here and ask the Government of India to take initiatives to address the issue of Kashmir,”
“I have talked to leaders of the Opposition parties at the centre and they were sympathetic to idea of sending a delegation here. We hope that they are concerned about it,” Tarigami said when asked about the opposition parties mulling to visit Kashmir. (KNS)
