jJKInc picSrinagar: Both Kashmir and Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries today said that they are on the same page with regard to economic development of the state and in this regard  they inform both the Central and State Governments to take effective steps urgently on certain issues so that the people at large and the business community in particular get benefitted.

Addressing reporters in Srinagar, president Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rakesh Gupta said that both the chambers demand from the central government the return of all the power projects which are run by NHPC illegally in the state. “The NHPC is running the power projects on ad hoc basis as there is no agreement for continuing their running through NHPC and that the JKPSDC is capable of running the same. This important step will be one of the main steps which will ensure economic development as the amount of money spent by the state government to buy power at exorbitant  prices (although the same is generated by the power stations within the state by NHPC)  shall be available to the state government for development.”

Gupta according to CNS said that the both the chambers demand that the central government take steps to declare the whole of J&K as a free economic zone by which we will be able to trade with all the countries in central Asia, China, Russia, Iran etc and for once take advantage of our geography. “Till the Free Economic Zone is achieved both the chambers demand that the items to be traded should be based on a negative list of not more than 50 items and not a positive list of 21 items which is the case now .This step will ensure free trade and not a restricted trade and advantage should come to J&K on both sides than to any other state as we have been the sufferers economically from 1947,” he said.

Gupta further said that both the chambers want the state government to issue and implement government order of treating Tourism including hotels as industry and provide all the incentives available to industries in the State.

He said that both the chambers put on notice the state government to stop the harassment of all traders before we react and resort to financial indiscipline. We request the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister to announce Amnesty pertaining to Pre Vat period. We warn the Commercial Taxes Department not to enter the premises of honest taxpaying business people and instead advise them to stop corruption within their own Department as the only one entry point that is Lakhanpur.”

During the press briefing the representatives from both the Chambers including president KCC&I Mushtaq Ahmed Wani were present. (CNS)
