arrestSrinagar: Pakistan High Commission official was questioned today by the Delhi Police over alleged spying and theft of defence documents and that two men from Rajasthan have been arrested for allegedly leaking documents to him. Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit has been summoned by the foreign ministry.

According to report Mohammed Akhtar, 35, who works in the Pakistan High Commission, was detained after a tip-off and was reportedly let off because of diplomatic immunity. The men who were arrested had been leaking sensitive documents to the official, say Indian police sources.

Reports said that “some employees in the Pakistani mission came under scrutiny last year after a spy ring associated with Pakistan’s intelligence was exposed and five people, including a non-commissioned Air Force officer, were arrested.

The police say today’s arrests may be connected to that network. (Agencies)
